The Mezzanine

Can’t step forward any farther

Each move becomes a burden

Dim light leaks through the cracked door

Walking up those stairs,

let’s open the door

I’m merely standing here

Going back downstairs?

No, I’d rather stay here

My heart shatters in a shroud of silence

I’ve been trapped

ever since

we hid our entwined fingers

  1. Touching poem, reminded me of an old folk song from a remote place in India. I’ll translate it for you.
Bird sighs…tried talking into but is relentless for a new cage
